Workers on Dinardstrasse in Starnberg were using a pile driver - and damaged a gas pipe in the process.

Starnberg - Work with a pile driver caused damage to the gas pipeline in Dinardstrasse on Monday.

As Beate Zarges from "Energie Südbayern" reports, the line was damaged around 10.15 am in the area of a sheet pile wall that was set up in the course of the construction work for the future "Dinard Park".

The worker (26) informed the utility company, whose employees in turn notified the fire brigade and police just a few minutes later.

“You could smell the gas and hear it hissing,” says Starnberg's third commander, Markus Kraus, who was in charge of the fire service. The police blocked Dinardstrasse in both directions, and Energie Südbayern lowered the pressure in the line. Then workers were able to close the leak. By lowering the pressure, “during the repair work, an interruption in supply in the Dinardstrasse area”, explains Zarges. The work was finished around 1.30 p.m. For the twelve comrades of the Starnberg fire brigade, the mission was over, according to Kraus, at around 2.15 p.m., and the six forces from Söcking were able to leave again after an hour.

The gas pipe is in the sidewalk of the street. The damaged piece is the pipe that led to the building, which has now been demolished, and which used to house the Kindergarten Spielinsel. Under the name “Dinard-Park”, the project developer Ehret und Klein is building five residential buildings with a total of 21 apartments, a kindergarten and an underground car park on the more than 300 square meter site between Dinardstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse.
