For people who have become violent in their close social environment - for example towards their wives or husbands - there is now a counseling center in the parish hall "Mit einer" in Weilheim.

People who, as stalkers, harass others by stalking, for example, will also find contact persons there.

Weilheim

- The new “specialist office for domestic violence perpetrators” at Theatergasse 1 is an institution of the “Diakonisches Werk Rosenheim” and has a large area of responsibility. "In view of the catchment area and the accessibility by public transport, the Weilheim location seemed to us the most suitable", explains Mara Homberg, division manager at "Diakonie - Soziale Dienst Oberbayern" the decision to create an additional advice center in the district town. This is not only responsible for the Weilheim-Schongau district, but also for six other districts (Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Landsberg / Lech, Starnberg, Fürstenfeldbruck and Ebersberg).

For victims of domestic violence there is “already a wide range of help”, according to a press release by the Diakonie.

“In order to counteract domestic violence, however, additional professional offers are required that support perpetrators in taking responsibility for themselves and changing their behavior.” Domestic violence occurs not only as physical and sexual but also as psychological violence.

Stephanie Kaindl and Christof Furtwängler are there for clients in the counseling center, which is initially housed in the parish hall.

Both work 20 hours a week in Weilheim and, according to Homberg, have "many years of experience in the field of anti-violence".

But what does this work actually look like?

Group training is to be offered in the future, but so far - due to the low number of participants - there have only been individual consultations.

"Both forms of work contain classic elements of anti-violence training," says the Diakonie.

This also points out that “the dimension of domestic violence” is not limited to the perpetrator-victim relationship, but also affects the family environment - “especially children who live in the family”.

The proportion of "self-reporters" is low

"Our offers aim to ensure that the participants take responsibility for their own actions of violence and learn non-violent action skills," says a Diakonie flyer. "The development of empathy (empathy) for the injured party and individual strategies to avoid relapse are promoted and developed."

The counseling center contacts people who have become violent, for example, when they receive a report from the police or when the youth welfare office has suggested participating in a group program. However, domestic violence perpetrators can also contact her themselves. But, according to Homberg: "In the area of perpetrator work 'domestic violence' we are essentially dependent on referrals from the public prosecutor's offices and local courts, since the proportion of so-called self-reporters is generally rather low."

The “Diakonisches Werk Rosenheim” has been offering perpetrator work programs in the area of “domestic violence” in the south-east of Bavaria for almost 20 years. Now the specialist department in Weilheim has been added. Their offer is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs. The advice center is currently in the process of establishing cooperations and is presenting its offer to various agencies - women's shelters as well as youth welfare offices and public prosecutors.

In 2020, the specialist office in Rosenheim worked in the area of “domestic violence” with 157 people (mostly men) and in the area of “stalking” with 14 people.

In the case of domestic violence, there was a slight decrease in inquiries or referrals compared to the previous year (from 115 to 101), and there was one in the areas of “stalking” (from 7 to 12) and “child abuse” (from 2 to 6) Rise.
