After a knife attack on his parents, a Tölzer (33) is on trial in Munich for attempted murder.

It's about his placement in a psychiatric ward.

Bad Tölz / Munich

- He could have become a successful ice hockey player.

From the youth team of his club, he once made it to a selection team.

But then came the disease, schizophrenia.

It unhooked his normal life and culminated in a knife attack against his parents in Bad Tölz in September 2020.

The trial of the now 33-year-old began on Monday in front of the Munich II district court.

He is charged with attempted murder.

He cannot be judged.

He is innocent of guilt.

It's about his placement in a psychiatric ward.

Defendant in court: "I love my parents"

There was a pile of misery in the dock.

The man who had seriously injured his parents with a knife cried and sobbed again and again.

On the pretext of wanting something to drink, he had rang his father awake at four o'clock in the morning.

He gave him a bottle of iced tea and sent him back to his apartment across the street.

But instead of leaving, the 33-year-old pulled out his knife.

It was once given to salami for free.

"Put them down, the pigs," the voices in his head would have ordered him, according to the defendant.

“I love my parents.

I'm lost without it, ”said the Tölzer, crying.

"I don't understand why I came up with it."

Father has to undergo emergency surgery after the knife attack

The father was able to fend off the attack, but suffered four stab wounds in the abdominal area and 13 punctures in the left arm.

He had to be operated on.

The mother received six punctures in the thigh and lower leg of her left leg.

Even today there is a feeling of numbness in the area of the calf.

She is also severely mentally impaired.

Because the 33-year-old's brother was awakened by the attack and the screams, the accused could be put to flight.

He hitchhiked his way to Geretsried.

There he crouched on the side of the road until the police came.

“They then took me with them,” reported the accused.

With voices in your head, things keep getting worse

Initially, the man was placed in custody, then he was transferred to a psychiatric ward.

It wasn't the first time there.

There were therapies and medications that he often did not take regularly.

Then it got really bad with the voices in his head that provoked him.

“What do the voices say?” Asked the presiding judge Thomas Bott.

"They document my life and tell me to kill myself," replied the accused.

But what preoccupied him most was the relationship with his parents.

"They never want to talk to me again and they hate me," he feared and began to sob again.

Parents testify as witnesses on Wednesday

The parents, who are prosecuting the trial as joint plaintiffs, will testify as witnesses on Wednesday.

They are then allowed to talk to their son during a break in negotiations.

A hug that the 33-year-old wished for had to be canceled for reasons of corona infection protection.
