A minister was still there: Florian Herrmann spoke out in favor of permanent support for the series from the Free State

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- Florian Herrmann had his first encounter with Richard Strauss as a student: “The silent woman” at the Munich Opera. “That made a huge impression on me,” recalls the Minister for Federal Affairs and the Media (CSU). Yesterday he first experienced the music of the world-famous composer in his adopted home Garmisch-Partenkirchen - and was impressed again. “That's something special,” he said in a conversation with the Tagblatt after the matinee concert in Michael-Ende-Kurpark. That is why there is no question for him that the Free State must support the Strauss Days on a permanent basis. “Absolutely correct,” he thinks of the funding of 100,000 euros that was made this year.

It is particularly important to Florian Streibl that it stays that way.

The parliamentary group leader of the Free Voters in the Bavarian State Parliament has been campaigning for years to ensure that the Free State honors its important composer accordingly.

The Oberammergau resident sees “a good signal” in the new format.

As a reminder: after the six-figure deficit that had accumulated in 2019 under Alexander Liebreich's artistic direction, the market decided to restart in a more modest setting and against a festival.

The community has proven that it “can create something of good quality and quality with a limited budget”.

For him, there is a great chance that the 100,000 euros grant will remain and that the Free State's commitment will be perpetuated.

Even without a state reception there is enough time for talks with the minister

The state receptions that have been held in Strauss' honor for several years are also a sign of appreciation. That is why Herrmann came to Garmisch-Partenkirchen with his wife Renate. Like all guests, however, they had to forego drinks and snacks after the concert - due to the corona. That didn’t detract from the good mood. And the opportunity for talks still arose - before and after the performance of the Salzburg Ensemble under the direction of Carlos Chamorro.

“But the best thing is that we can listen to music together again,” emphasized Mayor Elisabeth Koch (CSU). The minister could only agree: “We have every reason to be confident.” In line with the program, he quoted Mozart: “Without music, everything would be nothing.” How right he was, “we had to learn painfully”. Since the forced Corona break at the latest, it should be clear to everyone that art and culture are not “nice to have”, but an elixir of life. This also applies to the Strauss Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
