INTERVIEW - The President of the Iraqi Parliament expects "that France supports Iraq militarily and economically and that it reinforces its presence".

Mohammed al-Halboussi (Sunni) is the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, one of the three pillars of power alongside the Prime Minister (Shiite) and the President of the Republic (Kurdish).

He responded to

Le Figaro

during his visit to France last week.

LE FIGARO.

- Is Daesh still a threat to Iraq?

Mohammed AL-HALBOUSSI.

-

Certainly.

Daesh is first and foremost an ideology.

We defeated it militarily, but its thought remains.

ISIS, which still has cells in the desert, can return to the cities.

To destroy it, we must continue to fight against the reasons for its emergence.

We must pursue Daesh's armed gangs and at the same time strengthen the Iraqi security forces, without forgetting to improve the economic situation so that the population can find work and see the end of the tunnel.

In this fight, we need the friends of Iraq.

How do you rate the danger posed by pro-Iranian Shiite militias, who challenge authority?
