The central registry office in Tegernsee has a new management: On June 1st, Katharina Aust took over the post.

There's a lot to do: getting married at Tegernsee is still in vogue.

Tegernsee

- Katharina Aust took over the post on June 1st and is therefore also responsible for the administration of all registry offices around the Tegernsee and in Waakirchen.

The 28-year-old from Rottach has known her profession from the very beginning: She completed her training in the Tegernsee town hall in 2012, then went on to become a specialist and has worked at the Tegernsee registry office since May 2018.

We talked to the manager about her new job, about the ongoing trend to say yes at Tegernsee and about how the situation on the wedding front has developed during and after the corona lockdown.

Congratulations on your new job as head of the Tegernsee registry office, Ms. Aust.

A responsible position that you have taken on.

Thanks.

I am of course aware of the responsibility.

In the practical work, however, not very much has changed for me.

Every registrar stands for herself - and in difficult cases we have already supported each other.

We have an incredibly good relationship here.

However, the situation has changed for the newlyweds.

After the corona easing, you can now celebrate in larger company again.

How does this affect your work?

We still have to keep the distances.

Because our wedding room in Tegernsee is not huge, we can currently receive a maximum of ten people there.

Caution is still required.

We are also happy if the members of the wedding party have themselves tested before the wedding, but there is no obligation to do so.

We registrars ourselves also regularly voluntarily go for tests.

Getting married in a small circle was also possible during the corona lockdown.

Have many couples postponed their wedding anyway?

Of course there were those who wanted to celebrate their wedding in a big way and therefore postponed the wedding.

But there were also many who were interested in being married and who therefore stuck to their appointment.

This can also be seen in the numbers.

In 2019 we had 622 weddings in the entire Tegernsee Valley, in the pandemic year 2020 there were not that many fewer with 531 weddings.

Did those couples who postponed their wedding get a new date automatically?

No, they have to try again to make an appointment.

Otherwise some of the appointments would be blocked from the start, which would not be fair to the other couples.

The following applies here: equal rights for everyone.

The Tegernsee valley is a real hotspot for those willing to get married.

Her predecessor Irmgard Amler once said: "We could trust around the clock".

Have the waiting lists become even longer because of Corona?

We don't have any waiting lists.

We look after a total of six registry offices, so that would not be possible in terms of time and organization.

In addition to the marriages, we also have many other processes to deal with in the registry office.

So what do I have to do to get a wedding date at Tegernsee?

We always assign the dates a year in advance.

From July 1st, for example, the couples can make an appointment for July of the following year.

Of course, the phone no longer stands still on the days when appointments are made.

But we're doing pretty well with the system.

Weddings at Tegernsee always take place on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and sometimes also on Mondays.

At some point your capacity will probably just be exhausted, right?

We have now reached the maximum of what we can still lift.

Weddings also have to be prepared, and we are known for making the weddings as personal as possible.

We don't want assembly line weddings.

And the local couples get on top of that anyway.

Of course, they always get an appointment.

In Tegernsee our calendar is completely filled until the end of October.

Getting married at Tegernsee is chic.

Where do the foreign couples come from who are married here?

The vast majority come from Munich.

But we also have couples from Berlin, Cologne or Hamburg.

These are mostly people who know Tegernsee from their vacation.

Surely there are also some unusual requests.

Especially in Corona times, many couples wanted to be married in the open air here in Tegernsee.

But that's just not possible.

The framework has to be right, after all, a marriage like this is also a formal act. But we always try to make the best of it.

And I think that is quite possible in our beautiful town hall.

As the head of the registry office, what do you wish for in the future?

It would be nice if we could get back to normal with the marriages soon.

That would also be desirable for us registrars - after all, we are passionate about the weddings and always sympathize with the couples.
