The outgoing president was elected for a second term with 39% of the vote in the second round of regional elections this Sunday, June 27, 2021.

The scenario of a push by the National Rally was on the table, it is ultimately the right that remains in power.

According to first estimates, the outgoing LR president, Jean Rottner, is largely reelected at the head of the Grand Est region.

With 39% of the vote, he is clearly ahead of the RN candidate, Laurent Jacobelli (27%), the ecologist Éliane Romani (21%) and the Macronist minister Brigitte Klinkert (13%).

Victory was not at hand, however.

In a region marked by abstention in the first round (70.4%), the hypothesis of a breakthrough by the spokesperson for the Lepéniste party appeared credible.

The first round had however defied the forecasts by placing, already, Jean Rottner in the lead (31.1%) in front of the RN (21.1%), the left led by Éliane Romani (14.6%) and LREM (10, 8%).

Taking advantage of his lead, the outgoing president decided to maintain his lists and sweep away any rapprochement with the presidential majority. The elected LR had also called for "a

lot of caution

" against the candidate of the RN, while calling for mobilization. A profitable strategy, since he is now entering a second term.
