Regional results in Hauts-de-France: Xavier Bertrand largely in the lead

2021-06-27T21:13:34.656Z

Xavier Bertrand faced in Hauts-de-France the RN candidate Sébastien Chenu and the united left behind Karima Delli.

Last Sunday, he congratulated himself on having "broken the jaws" of the National Rally.

Xavier Bertrand came out on top with 53% of the vote in the second round of regional elections in Hauts-de-France.

He is ahead of RN Sébastien Chenu (25.6%) and leftist candidate Karima Delli (21.4%), according to initial estimates from Ipsos Sopra Steria for France Télévisions, Radio France and LCP-National Assembly / Public Senate ..

On the evening of the first round, the former minister appeared to be the big favorite in regional elections in the region, coming out largely in the lead with 41.42% of the vote.

The candidate of the National Gathering Sébastien Chenu had obtained 24.37% of the vote in the first round, far, far from the score obtained by Marine Le Pen in 2015 on the same grounds, while the united left list carried by Karima Delli did not had done no better than 18.97%, very far from the ambitions displayed before the first round.

A result which therefore allowed the former minister of the governments of Dominique de Villepin and François Fillon to calmly consider a second term, he who has already made known his intention to run for the presidential election in the year next.

170 regional councilor seats are at stake in Hauts-de-France, a region of 6 million inhabitants.

Xavier Bertrand has been its president since 2015. That year, he beat in the second round the president of the National Rally Marine Le Pen after the withdrawal of the left, in the name of the Republican front.
