The Speaker of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, called on the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to condemn Britain's actions against the backdrop of the provocation of a British destroyer in the Black Sea a few days ago and hold those behind it accountable.
"It is absolutely clear that the countries of the European Union and the United States are trying to remain silent and obscure the incident, and this silence is another manifestation of double standards," Volodin said in a statement today.
"It would be right for international organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament to condemn the behavior of the British authorities and hold those behind this adventure to account," Volodin added.
The British destroyer "Defender" penetrated Russian territorial waters, three kilometers off the coast of the Crimea, forcing a Russian border guard ship to fire warning shots along the destroyer's path.
