The plans for senior citizen accommodation in Fischbachau have stalled.

Mayor Lohwasser now wants to discuss alternatives - initially at Wolfsee.

Fischbachau

- The one-sided radio silence that the owner of the Auracher Fischeralm imposed on the Fischbachau administration has destroyed the hopes associated with the project.

80 care places and around 30 barrier-free apartments should have been created on the 10,000 square meter property.

Two years ago, the then mayor Josef Lechner (CSU) wanted all Fischbachau seniors to continue living close to their home and to relieve the housing market.

But because the owner has asked for a time to think about it and no longer reacts to requests from the community, Lechner's successor Johannes Lohwasser (FWG) has withdrawn from the project.

"At the moment," he says, "I no longer plan on the Fischeralm."

Senior accommodation for Fischbachau: does everything turn out differently?

Lohwasser has alternatives in mind for this.

The Erl Group, which planned the Auracher Heim, wants to continue investing in the town.

If not at the Fischeralm, then somewhere else.

One option would be the Wolfsee: There the community is still looking for a new use for the Wolfseehalle site.

One option would be senior housing.

According to Lohwasser, the Erl Group could imagine that.

You could even get competition: The plan for assisted living in Elbach is also stalling.

In March the local council judged it to be too big for the village, and Lohwasser no longer put it on the agenda.

But this investor, too, reports the mayor, wants to continue implementing a project in Fischbachau.

Wolfsee could also be an option for him.

The community therefore has an area, two professional prospects and thus all options.

Whether she wants to use these options.

it will be decided in July at the earliest.

Then the local council meets for a retreat to discuss the future of the Wolfseehalle.

It is still unclear whether the local councils want a senior facility there.

Finally, some wanted the hall to be used by clubs, a kindergarten and business were also in the room.

How the majority will turn out seems difficult to assess.

Does Fischbachau need a retirement home or assisted living?

The assessment of needs is likely to be decisive for this.

Studies predict that the district will experience a sharp rise in demand for all types of senior citizen accommodation.

Nevertheless, some local councils recently doubted that Fischbachau, as a large-area municipality, needs a nursing home or assisted living for this.

Seniors are looked after by the family here at home, they said.

A home is more likely to serve big cities from far away.

Lohwasser sees it differently.

“The need is definitely there, too,” he believes.

In order to have reliable figures, he wants to ask the Fischbachau residents by community messenger how much care they need.

The results should help the local council and it to make a decision.

Lohwasser also takes up Lechner's argument in favor of senior citizens' facilities: older people who currently live in large, high-maintenance houses would make everyday life easier by moving to assisted living and at the same time create living space for young families. In the end everyone wins, Lohwasser is convinced. His conclusion: "The question is more about when and where we can get a nursing home and assisted living." The local council will soon discuss whether it will be at Wolfsee at its retreat.
