Since Donald Trump had to leave the White House in January 2021, legal pressure on the former US president and his conglomerate has grown.

For months there have been interim results about the investigations of the public prosecutor's offices in Manhattan and the state of New York.

Now she reports "Washington Post": The lawyers of the Trump Organization have until Monday afternoon (local time) to explain why the company should avoid an indictment.

The newspaper cites two sources, not named, who are familiar with what was going on in the investigative authorities.

The deadline of 24 hours was announced on Sunday.

In mid-May it became known that a criminal investigation was being carried out for the business conduct in the Trump group.

"We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation is no longer just civil," said the spokesman for Letitia James, attorney general for New York State at the time.

One investigates criminal in cooperation with the prosecutor in the New York borough of Manhattan.

Potential asset fraud

The local prosecutor, Cyrus Vance, followed up on alleged hush money payments that Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen allegedly paid to porn star Stormy Daniels and former playmate Karen McDougal.

Both women claim to have had affairs with Trump.

This denies.

Meanwhile, however, Vance's investigations go beyond the Daniels and McDougal cases.

Letitia James had started an investigation after Cohen testified before the US Congress that the value of some assets had been increased in Trump's financial statements to save money on loans and insurance.

In addition, other assets were reported too low to reduce real estate taxes.

Grand jury should decide

In this context, the authorities are examining four properties, including one in the center of Manhattan.

According to James, Eric Trump, son of the ex-president, is closely involved in one or more transactions as executive vice president of the Trump Organization holding company.

According to New York case law, charges can be brought against both individuals and corporations as a whole.

Also in May, it was reported that Vance had put together a grand jury.

According to the information, the jury group should decide whether charges must be brought against Trump, executives in his group or the company itself.

This move suggested that the prosecutor may have found enough evidence of a possible crime.
