Holzkirchen - Finally culture again, finally theater again!

After a long dry spell, the theater curtain opened with a comedic bang in the Holzkirchner Kultur im Oberbräu.

The ensemble of the Freie Landestheater Bayern / Fools Theater impressed on Friday with the premiere of the two-person comedy "My husband is the most beautiful" by Pierre Badan.

A good 50-strong audience spread out in the small hall of the Kulturhaus in accordance with corona and experienced an evening at the theater where everything was right down to the smallest detail.

Holzkirchen: FLTB-Fools-Ensemble shines with comedy "My husband is the most beautiful"

The brother of the French Sun King, Philippe von Orleans (Christophe Vetter), does not marry the young German Lieselotte von der Pfalz (Melanie Renz) quite voluntarily. The fact that Philippe is more towards the male sex and shows feminine behavior does not make marriage easy for Lieselotte. Director Julia Dippel brilliantly staged this weird connection between two opposing characters over three decades. The fact that professionals are at work here becomes evident in every phase of the ingenious piece, which is based on historical facts and is peppered with lively - sometimes hearty - dialogues.

Melanie Renz is a trained musical artist, actress, director and studied theater studies. After completing his acting training, Christophe Vetter played at the Schaubühne Berlin and the Münchner Kammerspiele, among others. Despite all their professionalism, the two shine with an enormous joy in playing, a complete identification with the role, comedic ability and in quiet and thoughtful scenes with a high level of sensitivity. Their language is appropriate in every phase of the situation: Renz and Vetter constantly vary in volume, speaking speed, and the organization of breaks. They let their playful instinct run wild when it is appropriate and take back when the situation calls for it. The comedy is interspersed with delicate scenes resulting from the special constellation.

Already on the wedding night, on which the two meet for the first time, the dilemma becomes clear: you, down-to-earth, a bit naive and completely inexperienced in love affairs. He, in love with himself and decadent, with plenty of affairs, but only with young men. Only if there is no other way because of the courtly customs, a (wife) wife has to "serve". "You will never have a rival", the prince calms down the unfortunate ones, who gives in awkwardly and loyally, credibly grows into her role and finally surpasses herself. In addition to the sexual problems of marriage, the question arises more and more clearly in the course of the evening: "Who is actually the man in the house?" Not only in bed, but increasingly in everyday life and things at war.

Julia Dippel, with her formidable actors, never boldly exaggerates sensitive issues such as homosexuality and gender roles or makes them embarrassing and ridiculous.

Everything comes across elegant and light-footed, intelligent and lively, at times thoughtful and melancholy, always dense and intense.

The harmonious triad of stage design, costume and mask contributes significantly to the success of the evening.

The audience thanked them with thunderous final applause, in which enthusiasm and recognition resonated in equal measure.

Director Dippel on the preparations

The Munich director Julia Dippel heads the music theater division at the Free State Theater. She teaches young people in dramatic design and has been a bestselling author for several years. About the special circumstances during the production of “My husband is the most beautiful” she says: “Everything was put on hold. Nobody knew when it would start again. Our idea then was that you had to prepare something organizationally small in compliance with the corona rules, so that - when it could start again - you could come out with it right away. ”The three of you are much more flexible. At the beginning of the year, the first reading samples began as a Zoom conference. "For the right samples later, we had ourselves tested every time and were thus on the safe side." Regarding the special content of the comedy, she says:"Although it has a historical background, the gender issue it contains is highly topical today".

Further dates

“My husband is the most beautiful can still be seen on July 3rd and 10th in the Fools Theater.
