The second round of regional elections will not have delivered any surprises everywhere.

Hervé Morin in Normandy, Alain Rousset in New Aquitaine or Gilles Simeoni in Corsica: the results of the first round were confirmed this Sunday evening in the second ballot.

Overview.

Normandy: Hervé Morin rempile

Victory for the centrists.

Hervé Morin won a second six-year term as President of Normandy.

With 44.2% of the vote according to Ipsos / Sopra Steria estimates, the former Minister of Defense of François Fillon, supported by Les Républicains (LR) and the UDI, did better than in 2015, when he had delighted on wire the area to the left.

On the left this Sunday evening, the atmosphere is rather gloomy.

Socialist Mélanie Boulanger (EELV / PS), the candidate supported by the PS mayor of Rouen (Seine-Maritime), came in second (25.9%).

Despite the absence of a merger of the PS-EELV and PCF-LFI lists, between the two rounds, the socialist candidate seems to have benefited from the votes carried over from the Communist voters.

Behind the socialist list, RN MEP Nicolas Bay (20.1%) saw his score decline compared to the 2015 ballot. Despite the support of the former Le Havre Prime Minister, Édouard Philippe, the macronist Laurent Bonnaterre ( 9.8%), is down compared to the first round in this region of three million inhabitants.

Grand-Est: Jean Rottner keep his chair

Categorical refusal of any alliance with LREM and notoriety built on the management of the health crisis.

These are the two trump cards that allowed Jean Rottner (39%) to keep his chair as president of the Grand-Est.

A strategic positioning dictated by its desire to avoid a controversy similar to that which marked the electoral campaign in Paca.

While his offensive management of the Covid crisis has put this training doctor on the front line to negotiate with the Élysée.

A time considered "Macron-compatible", it ensures that it does not nurture national ambitions.

As in many regions, the majority list led by Brigitte Klinkert (LREM / Modem) comes in last position (12.8%), behind Laurent Jacobelli (RN) with 27.1% and Éliane Romani, (EELV / PS / PCF) with 21.1%

Corsica: Gilles Simeoni with a clear score

It is no surprise that the autonomist list of Gilles Simeoni (Femu a Corsica), who finished first in the first round (29.2%) of the regional won the second round, this Sunday evening with a final score of 39, 7%. Behind him, Laurent Marcangeli, mayor of Ajaccio and leader of a united right (24.9%), emerges in second position, followed by the union list of Jean-Christophe Angelini (PNC / Corsica Libera) with 15.2% and Paul-Félix Benedetti with 13.0% at the head of the radical independence party Core in Fronte.

This election will, however, mark the electoral history of the island.

It is, in fact, the first time in 29 years that Jean-Guy Talamoni, the outgoing president of the Corsican Assembly, victim of nationalist disunity, was not on any list in the second round and will therefore no longer sit. .

Its Corsica Libera list obtained 6.90% of the votes in the first round, a result below the 7% required in Corsica to be able to maintain itself (against 10% in other regions).

Corsica Libera merged with Angelini, but Talamoni was not on the new roster.

Since the second round of territorial elections in 2015, Gilles Simeoni's party, Femu a Corsica, and his were associated in a nationalist coalition called Pe a Corsica.

A page has just turned.

New Aquitaine: full box for Alain Rousset the PS

With Nouvelle-Aquitaine, it is the largest region of France, by its surface area, which is preserved by the Socialists. As in Occitanie and Brittany, the outgoing president (39.3%), Alain Rousset, had not requested an agreement with the EELV list in the first round. Behind him come Edwige Diaz (RN) with 18.9%, Nicolas Florian (LR) with 14.3%, Nicolas Thierry (EELV / Gen. S) with 14.3% and, in last position, Minister Geneviève Darrieussecq (LREM / MoDem / UDI) with 13.2%.

Between the two rounds, the situation was particularly tense between Alain Rousset and his former vice president for the environment Nicolas Thierry, which prevented the merger of the two lists, unlike the scenario of 2015 where the threat of FN was stronger. Full cardboard box for the rose party. After this quinquangular, Alain Rousset is preparing for a fifth term as regional president. He should be officially elected president of the region on July 2, during the installation of the entire regional council. His first election as head of the region dates back to 1998.
