According to first estimates, the outgoing presidents are the big winners of the second round of the regional elections which took place this Sunday, June 27.

Status quo for the map of regions.

According to initial estimates, the results of the second round of regional elections, which took place this Sunday, June 27, 2021, give the outgoing presidents largely victorious.

The only exception: Reunion, where the PS / LFI candidate Huguette Bello preceded the outgoing ex-LR president, Didier Robert.

The results for Guadeloupe, Martinique and Guyana are not yet known.

In a context of massive abstention (around 66%), the French opted for stability.

The left kept its five regions and acquired a new one, while the right went from eight to seven territories to its credit by losing Reunion.

In the running for a second term, it is the socialist Carole Delga who records the highest score.

Reelected with 58.5% of the vote, the outgoing largely crushes its competitors RN, Jean-Paul Garraud (23.5%) and LR, Aurélien Pradié (18%).

Wauquiez, Bertrand and Pécresse widely re-elected

The three particularly scrutinized right-wing figures are also in the lead.

This is the case of outgoing LR Laurent Wauquiez in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (55%), of ex-LR Xavier Bertrand in Hauts-de-France (54%) and ex-LR Valérie Pécresse in Île-de-France (45.5%).

Xavier Bertrand was playing particularly big, since the candidate had conditioned his candidacy for the 2022 presidential election on his re-election, a bet won.

In Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the outgoing LR Renaud Muselier particularly relishes his victory.

In a duel against the RN candidate Thierry Mariani - who himself came first in the first round (36.38%) - the Marseillais ended up winning with 56% of the vote.

Endangered by the National Rally, outgoing Jean Rottner in the Grand Est (LR, 39%), Hervé Morin in Normandy (ex-UDI, 44%) and Marie-Guite Dufay in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (PS, 43 %) are also widely re-elected. In the Pays de la Loire, President LR Christelle Morancais (46.5%) saves her seat against a union of the left led by environmentalist Matthieu Orphelin (34.5%). Loïg Chesnais-Girard (PS / PCF) sees his strategy paying off in Brittany (31%), after refusing an alliance with the Greens and the Walkers in the in-between rounds. Finally in Corsica, the autonomist Gilles Simeoni is ahead of the ex-LR Laurent Marcangeli with 32.1% of the vote.

Some outgoing presidents also continue to lead their regions after many years in office. In New Aquitaine, the socialist Alain Rousset is starting a fifth term (39%). After thirteen years of presidency, the head of the PS-PCF-EELV list François Bonneau is starting a third in Center-Val de Loire.
