The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin discussed in a telephone conversation with the Political Director of Ireland's Foreign Minister Sonia Hyland the situation in Syria and the issue of humanitarian aid.

The Foreign Ministry indicated in a statement today that the Russian side stressed during the call the need to adhere to the principles of humanitarian aid stipulated in the relevant United Nations resolutions, as well as to respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria.

The statement pointed out that the conversation took place on the 25th of this month at the initiative of the Irish side.
