One day after the first stage of the Tour de France, many people in the district were there by bike on Sunday.

Because in Freising the action city cycling started.

Freising

- city cycling works like this: All participants register the kilometers they have cycled within the next three weeks. The registration and mileage registration takes place online via the website www.stadtradeln.de/freising or in the official Stadtradl app. The aim of the campaign is to encourage people to cycle as many everyday trips as possible in a climate-friendly way (and also health-promoting).

The spectacular starting shot with the first kilometers to be entered was given with a relay ride through all participating municipalities. It all started on Marienplatz in Freising and the first cyclists started pedaling towards Allershausen. Around 15 city cyclists came together - some professionally equipped with racing bikes and racing suits, some in leisure outfits, some with e-bikes, but all of them willing to cover kilometers and distances in order to make city cycling a success in 2021 as well. Because the recorded kilometers result not only from such "extra trips" as on Sunday at the start, but also from trips to work, in leisure time, for shopping or on all other routes - the main thing is that the distances are covered by bike.

Moritz Strey, the district's energy officer, and Dominik Fuchs, the Mobility Manager for the city of Freising, assured them at the start that cycling was "fun and enjoyable" because you were doing something for the environment and your own fitness. Monika Schwind, one of the two “cycling stars” of the city of Freising this year, alongside her city council colleague Joana Bayraktar, said she was excited to see what it would be like to be completely without a car for three weeks (and not even have a passenger be). City cycling - although this is not a competition, two winners have already been determined: the climate and the environment. She wished the participants “good luck and always a good trip”. Then the entourage swung itself on the saddles, took the route to the first relay handover to Allershausen under the wheels.

In addition to city cycling, school cycling will also take place again.

The aim of this campaign is to create a healthy change from the mostly sedentary school life and to make children and young people fit for everyday cycling.

There are attractive prizes to be won for all schools and classes in Bavaria-wide comparison.

As an incentive at the local level, the Agenda21 project group Building, Living and Transport awards prizes worth a total of 875 euros to the hardest working schoolchildren or class teams in Freising.
