The Zollingers had to wait a long time for a new priest from their own ranks.

The joy was all the greater when the parish was able to celebrate a Primiz for the first time in 59 years on Sunday.

Zolling

- Stefan Schmitt celebrated his first Holy Mass in his home parish in the open air. Big station for the primitive: the Zollinger Musikverein played in front of the rectory, friends and acquaintances congratulated the new priest. Together with music, the altar boys, flag delegations, many believers and a large crowd of priests, the church procession started shortly before 10 a.m. in the direction of the church forecourt. Since the parish church could not accommodate all of the celebrants, the church bodies had set up the altar in the open air beforehand. Thanks to the perfect preparation of the party, each of the registered visitors found a place. "You will now experience a historical event that will go down in the history of Zolling", the Zollinger pastor, Father Ignatius, greeted the believers.

One would have liked to have a big festival with the whole community.

Unfortunately, this was not possible because of the pandemic, the priest regretted.

His thanks first went to the parents of the primitive, Ludwig and Rosi Schmitt.

They would have brought their son right into life, with infinite love.

The 26-year-old was ordained a priest on Saturday by Reinhard Cardinal Marx in Munich's Liebfrauendom.

With meaningful words from the “Book of Wisdom”, Schmitt addressed the believers during the reading.

The church applies to all people, not just an elite.

God seek the way with all people.

"Because if he didn't love them all, he wouldn't have made them." This is exactly the attitude he learned to appreciate in Stefan Schmitt, emphasized Pastor Gerhard Beham of the Wolfratshausen City Church.

Under his aegis, Schmitt had experienced the last phase of his training before his ordination after completing the seminary, studying in Munich and a year abroad in Padua.

The church is a large space, according to the clergyman from Wolfratshausen.

A space to create spaces of respect and dialogue with one another.

"The great opportunity lies in the differences," said Beham.

Everyone is an image of Jesus Christ.

The “original” thing about the Christian faith is that it brings people “to be human”.

The numerous believers at communion watched with emotion as Schmitt donated the hosts to his parents.

Many were happy to have the first gift of the new priest donated after the service - the first gift of the new priest: a touch that is supposed to strengthen in everyday life.

Schmitt, who had got to know the liturgical service as an altar boy in the parish church of St. John the Baptist in Zolling, was also happy to welcome the two past Zollingen pastors Johannes Thiele and Hans Sinseder.

The friendly and warm-hearted young man will soon take up his first position as chaplain in the Neumarkt St. Veit parish association.
