Usually, former US presidents are reluctant to make statements about the work and behavior of other US presidents.
It is an unwritten rule in Washington’s political life.
However, since the Donald Trump era, many of these practices have been suspended.
This is shown, among other things, by the current statements by Barack Obama at a benefit event.
In doing so, the Democrat found unusually clear words about the man to whom he handed over office in the White House in January 2017: “We saw how my successor violated the most important principle of democracy, proclaimed himself the winner - and a lot of nonsense thought up. "
Obama is referring to Trump's persistent claim that he only lost the 2020 election through fraud and forgery.
The Trump camp has not presented any evidence for this unfounded claim.
The British Guardian, among others, reports on Obama's statements.
However, many voters believe the 45th President's fairy tales.
The Republican Party uses conspiracy myths to promote various electoral reforms at the state and local levels.
Many of these projects aim to exclude certain groups of voters or to make it easier to contest results.
Obama said: "If we do not stop this now, we will see more and more doubted elections (...) We will see a progressive devaluation of our democracy."
There is a large faction in the Republican Party that is hoping for Trump to run again in the 2024 election.
William Barr becomes clear - Trump personally
A former comrade-in-arms had just talked about Trump election fraud myths.
Former Attorney General William Barr called this "bullshit" in an interview.
The allegations that voting machines were manipulated in the presidential election last year are also nonsense.
"That was all bullshit," Barr said to journalist Jonathan Karl after a report in The Atlantic magazine.
The ex-president returned the favor late on Sunday evening (local time) with a snappy statement.
Barr was "a disappointment in every way," wrote Trump.
His "weakness" had fueled the "crime of the century", he wrote with a view to his allegations.
