Zolling

- What a memorable Sunday in Zolling. First Stefan Schmitt celebrated his first church service at the Primiz in his hometown (we reported), then in the afternoon the congregation took part in the city cycling campaign for the first time. And with a huge success: Around 150 participants had gathered on the town hall square. Initiator and organizer Ewald Roddewig was happy. “Overwhelming” - that was what Mayor Helmut Priller first came up with in view of the large number of participants. The second thing that occurred to him was his first bicycle - a blue mini folding bike, which, as he said, did not look much good compared to the bonanza bikes of his friends. Today, of course, in times when bicycles were discovered for various sports, things are completely different: the variants that exist in two-wheelers areis no longer manageable.

A look at the participants on Sunday confirmed this: leisure bikes, real racing machines, cross-country bikes, with and without electric drive, even a futuristic recumbent bike - all of this was represented on Sunday. The fact that there is still a lack of bike lanes in the “back and front” area, as Priller knew exactly, is mainly due to the fact that there are always many offices “having a say”. Zolling is obviously a cycling community: of around 250 teams that have registered for city cycling in the entire district, 46 come from Zolling alone - including an ecumenical team. Pastor Meye Hoesch de Orellana and Father Ignatius Kullu advertised this when they blessed cyclists and bicycles on Sunday. Because: "Environmental protection is also a Christian concern."

Three things, according to Hoesch de Orellana, should not be missing on a bike tour: a sports drink, symbols for strength and energy “from above”, a rain cape, symbols for protection from above, and a cycle path map, a symbol that you always know where the right way is.

Before the entourage started moving, the participants covered themselves with cloth bags that were equipped with a sticker “Stadttradeln Zolling 2021”, the new cycle route map of the district and other cycle maps.

Bananas and apples were laid out ready to make the route.

Ewald Roddewig, who a year ago suggested setting up city bikes in Zolling as well, was clearly and rightly proud of the success: Actually, he said, he “only” wanted to encourage schools, kindergartens and clubs, had already been "overwhelmed" by the number of registrations, so to speak. Then numerous companies had reported, private individuals had joined them - and the ecumenical team. Roddewig returned Priller's praise to the community and the mayor, who were fully behind the action. The proof: The community pays five cents for every kilometer ridden by bike - money that goes to the youth work of the clubs. Another motivation to start pedaling in the coming weeks.
