Regional 2021: for Castex, if the French did not vote, it is because "their head was elsewhere"

2021-06-29T23:54:31.053Z

During a meeting of the executive board of LREM, the Prime Minister considered that the record abstention was due to a "disinterest" of the French.

The abstention was not protesting, the vote was conservative.

The French had their heads elsewhere.

This is what Jean Castex explained on Monday June 28, the day after the second round of regional and departmental elections, where the results were unfavorable to the presidential majority.

Jean Castex was also delighted with the low score recorded by the National Rally during these polls.

Perpignan switched to municipal last year (won by RN Louis Alliot, Editor's note), it hurt me.

I left the LRs because of the porosity with them

”, recalled Jean Castex, who welcomed that a year later“

no Perpignan canton has changed

According to another AFP participant, "

the right keeps what it has, but does not progress massively when it is the left which leads, and vice versa

", insisted the Prime Minister, referring to a "

legitimist vote

" , a "

recognition that the public authorities took good care of the crisis

", but according to him without "

automatic political consequences on the continuation

".

"To

renew the leavers is to trust the system more than to contest it radically

", he still considered.

"Defeats are part of political life"

With its 7% of votes won in the second round, LREM has a total of 104 regional advisers out of nearly 2,000 elected. While saying that he remembers his own defeat in past regional elections, Jean Castex explained that he had "

learned

" and "

came out of it strengthened

".

Difficulties and defeats are part of political life.

The question is how to get positive things out of it.

No one was unaware that it was a difficult election

”, he continued, noting that“

LREM does not have a strong local presence and these elections require knowledge of the ground

”.

"

It is never easy to have a mid-term election for a power in place

", also noted the Prime Minister.

And to conclude: “

After the holidays, we get back on the horse for 2022. Unity of the family

would have to go back into the fight and put energy into it, prepare and mobilize on a project, go back to the offensive

”.
