The first Chinese medicine hospital in Hong Kong is located at Pak Shing Kok Road, Tseung Kwan O. It is operated by the Baptist University. It will start construction tomorrow (30th). It is expected to be completed in 2025 and put into service in the second quarter of the same year.

This morning (29th), the Hong Kong and Taiwan program stated that the hospital's service model can be divided into pure Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine-based, and Chinese-Western medicine collaboration.

Citizens can make appointments for general outpatient clinics and non-subsidized services by themselves, and six specialist outpatient clinics need to be referred by Chinese and Western doctors.

Bian Zhaoxiang, Associate Vice President (Development of Chinese Medicine) of Hong Kong Baptist University, exemplifies that pure Chinese medicine services can treat severe pain; Chinese medicine-based services can help people recover from stroke. If patients suffer from both hypertension and diabetes, they need to rely on them. Western medicine maintains the treatment; and the cooperative service of Chinese and Western medicine is applicable to oncology patients, through Chinese medicine to relieve the side effects of chemotherapy.

Zhang Weilin, director of the Chinese Medicine Hospital Development Project Office, said that under the current medical system in Hong Kong, 90% of Chinese medicine practitioners work in the private market.

The TCM schools of the three universities have good training, but there are no clinical bases for further studies, and there is no large-scale clinical group in scientific research.

The government hopes to use Chinese medicine hospitals to promote the development of Chinese medicine. In addition to providing Chinese medicine services, it also develops training and scientific research platforms.

The hospital service model can be divided into pure Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine-based, and Chinese-Western medicine collaboration.

Zhang Weilin said that pure Chinese medicine services are traditional Chinese medicine treatments; Chinese medicine-based services can help patients with many diseases; and Chinese and Western medicine collaboration is a special arrangement, "hope that one plus one is greater than three." He added that Chinese medicine hospitals are usually run by Chinese doctors. You can also reach a treatment plan after discussing with a western doctor.

He emphasized that the hospital is a team model, and if the patient's situation is complicated, treatment can be discussed through inter-specialty meetings.

Bian Zhaoxiang: Chinese medicine-based services can help people recover from stroke

Bian Zhaoxiang, Associate Vice President (Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine) of Hong Kong Baptist University, explained that the hospital's policy is to focus on Chinese medicine and assist with western medicine, with the most important safety and clinical effects.

For example, he said that pure Chinese medicine can treat severe pain, and solve the patient's pain through acupuncture, massage, Chinese medicine and other methods.

Traditional Chinese medicine can help people recover from stroke. If patients suffer from high blood pressure and diabetes, they must rely on Western medicine for maintenance treatment.

The collaborative service of Chinese and Western medicine is suitable for oncology patients. Because chemotherapy is a Western medicine, it has many side effects, such as gastrointestinal discomfort, vomiting, and nerve paralysis. Chinese medicine can help relieve these discomforts.

The doctor will give treatment according to the clinical situation, and patients who need dialysis are also suitable for cooperative treatment of Chinese and Western medicine.

Zhang Weilin: Provide 400 beds in the fifth year

Zhang Weilin expects to gradually develop traditional Chinese medicine hospital services, start outpatient and day treatment in the first year, join the inpatient mode in the second year, and then strengthen year by year. In the fifth year, 400 hospital beds will be fully implemented, and the target service will be 310,000 visits per year.

65% of Chinese medicine hospitals are subsidized services, which are priced by the government, which is expected to be similar to general public medical services; the remaining 35% are market-oriented services, and the fees are determined by the board of directors of Chinese medicine hospitals.

The public can make appointments for general outpatient clinics and non-subsidized services, such as "preventive treatment centers" and "prestigious medical centers".

In the past, the branch of Chinese medicine was general medicine. The government hopes to further develop it. The Chinese Medicine Hospital has 6 specialties, including internal medicine, external medicine, women, children, orthopedics, and acupuncture. Specialist outpatient clinics need to be referred by Chinese and Western medicine.

Bian Zhaoxiang said that the "Preventive Treatment Center" is aimed at dealing with people's sub-health, that is, conditions that are prone to chronic diseases, and correct them before they form to reduce the possibility of future illnesses.

The Chinese Medicine Hospital will treat the citizens' physique separately and provide treatment. For example, cold hands represent insufficient Yang Qi.
