The Environment Bureau's new "Hong Kong Clean Air Blueprint" was released today (29th). The Secretary for the Environment, Huang Jinxing, will hold a press conference with the Development Bureau, the Food and Health Bureau, the Environmental Protection Department and the Transport Department at 2 pm to explain until 2035 The challenges, goals and strategies to improve Hong Kong’s air quality are expected to be discussed in the new "Blueprint" to import more clean energy, regional cooperation and green transportation.

"Hong Kong 01" will broadcast the entire press conference live.

The Secretary for the Environment, Huang Jinxing, said that Hong Kong launched the first "Clean Air Blueprint" in 2013 and reviewed and updated it in 2017. In the past 10 years, Hong Kong's air quality has improved.

In order to cope with climate change, in addition to improving the air, it will also deeply reduce carbon.

He emphasized that by 2035, the air quality in Hong Kong is comparable to that of major international cities, and a review will be conducted every five years. The ultimate goal is to make the air quality meet the World Health Organization's Air Quality Guidelines.

Huang Jinxing continued that pollutants on the roadside in Hong Kong have been reduced by 40 to 50%, and visibility has improved by as much as 80%.

Compared with the 2017 progress report, the energy, roadside and ship pollutants have all reached the standards in 2020.

The new blueprint has six major actions, including green transportation, livable environment, clean energy, scientific management, comprehensive emission reduction and regional coordination.

In terms of promoting electric vehicles, various bus companies have purchased electric buses and some companies have researched and introduced hydrogen-powered buses. As for about 440 housing estates in Hong Kong, involving a total of 100,000 parking spaces, they are preparing to upgrade electric vehicle charging equipment.

Increase the proportion of local renewable energy in the power generation portfolio

Huang continued that in terms of energy, there are two key points in the combination of power generation and new energy applications, including striving to increase the proportion of local renewable energy and studying the application of hydrogen energy in Hong Kong.
