An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 hit the west of Cuba on Tuesday, June 29, causing concern among residents and the evacuation of some buildings, authorities said.

The shock was felt in several areas of Havana.
The American Institute of Geophysics (USGS) estimated the earthquake's magnitude at 4.7, locating the epicenter 10 kilometers deep near Candelaria, in the province of Pinar del Rio, 70 kilometers west of La Havana.
The National Center for Seismological Investigations (Cenais) of Cuba calculated a magnitude of 5.1, specifying that "
this is the 4th perceptible earthquake of 2021
" on the island.
The last major earthquake recorded in this region occurred in January 2020: with a magnitude of 7.7, it shook the Caribbean between Cuba and Jamaica, but no damage had been reported, despite reported evacuations from La Havana in Miami.
