Bartholdi's bronze work this time only measures 3 meters for 450 kg and was rigged by the American press with the benevolent nickname of
"mini Lady Liberty"
. Elsewhere, in France and for diplomats, it is the “little sister” of the venerable monument offered by France to the United States, initially called
Liberty Enlightening the World
. But where it took more than two decades of gestation and a laborious fundraising to erect and then ship the original statue, that of 2021 is the result of a reflection born in 2018 between the current French ambassador in Washington, Philippe Étienne, then diplomatic advisor to the Élysée, and the general administrator of the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (Cnam), Olivier Faron.
