“It can follow voices that big dogs would not be able to hear. And because of its weight, it can go to places that are more unstable, "says its trainer.

A Mexican dog named Oreo has become

one of the stars of the work to search for survivors

in the rubble of the collapsed building in Surfside, north of Miami, Florida.

Rescue teams have been

fighting tirelessly

since the early hours of June 24, digging tunnels and clearing spaces in hopes of finding residents of the Champlain Towers South complex alive.

Firefighters and experts in this type of tragedy use the most advanced technology to obtain clues, such as radars and sonar devices.

But thanks to its

small dimensions and its hearing capacity

, Oreo is indispensable in these key hours to locate the residents who were buried under the ruins of the building.

The authorities have not clarified the possible causes of the collapse, but different reports suggest that it may be related to the poor condition of the building.

The president of the condominium association Champlain Towers South sent a letter last April to the owners, in which she indicated that the structural damage detected in 2018 by an engineer had "significantly worsened".
