Supreme Court ruling favors transgender youth

This 22-year-old transgender boy sued the decision of the school board of his high school in Virginia, which forced him to use a unisex or other female-only bathroom, the gender with which he was born, but not with which he identifies. Although the Supreme Court did not accept the case, that decision put into effect the ruling of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, which found that school board policy discriminated against Grimm because of his sexual orientation. The young man said that transgender people should be able to use the bathroom of their choice, without being humiliated and stigmatized by their schools or elected officials. Grimm finished high school, but the ruling will protect other transgender students.
