The Australian authorities issued strict instructions to impose quarantine on about ten million people, in light of the rise in infections with the Corona virus.
According to the French Press Agency, the quarantine was imposed on the residents of Brisbane and other areas in the province of Queensland, and they received instructions to stay in their homes, starting from this evening, for a period of three days in a first stage.
These measures come after imposing similar measures on residents of the cities of Sydney, Darwin and Perth, which have been facing, for a few weeks, a rise in infections with the highly contagious delta mutant due to loopholes in the quarantine arrangements for travelers from abroad.
Queensland Premier Anastasia Balajok said it was "difficult decisions... the decision was made to quarantine in major cities because the virus enters with the arrival of arrivals from abroad."
For his part, Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan said during a press conference: “We know the risks posed by Corona, and we realize by watching what is happening in the world that the delta mutant is something new that we should not leave any chance.”
Australia had initially done well in managing the pandemic, but it is now facing infections with the delta mutant that appeared in India first, bringing the number of infected people there since the start of this pandemic to more than 30,000, while the number of deaths has reached 910 cases.
