The great hours of Provence

2021-06-30T09:28:57.446Z

Romanticized historical tables relate certain episodes in the history of the region. Staged, they punctuate the visit.

Visible from July 1 and not before, the shows and videomappings intend to wow their visitors who are invited to join in the stroll.

The daytime shows include two strolls in the castle with the themes of heroes and historical events in Provence: Forbin, the Knight of the Royal, and the Revolt of the Cascavèu.

The spectators meet there costumed actors in meticulous settings.

In the evening, the enchantment takes over the Le Nôtre garden.

Forbin, the Knight of the Royal

Born in 1656, he is the great Provencal hero, an officer in the French navy.

To recount his sea voyage to the kingdom of Siam, the bowels of the castle reveal the reconstruction of a boat hold attacked by another ship with a lot of cannon noise.

The Source of Quarrels

Provided by the company "La Cour des grands", specializing in the work of Marcel Pagnol, the show depicts one of Pagnol's major themes: the supply of water in the village.

The quest of the builders

In the year 1000, a character called Bénezet roamed the ruins of medieval Provence until the revival brought by the order of Saint-Victor Abbey in Marseille.

A journey closer to the monks who built them.

The revolt of the Cascavèu

In 1630, in the midst of a plague pandemic that hit Aix-en-Provence hard, Cardinal Richelieu, then Minister of Louis XIII, decided to centralize taxes.

Afraid of the inflation that such a decision would cause, the peasants revolt

and burn houses and mansions associated with the monarchy.

The castle of La Barben is not spared by the Cascavèus, who owe their nickname to the bell they wore and tinkled as a rallying sound.

A visit that passes through the cozy lounges of the castle to the sound of the harpsichord and even through the office of Richelieu, an ally of the nobles.

The breath of Provence

Cutting-edge technology and air travel are offered to visitors invited to climb on the back of Bonelli's eagle, an endangered species originally present in Provence.

Filmed by a drone, the video projected on a dome flies over the various monuments and emblematic landscapes of Provence seen from the sky.

At the navy bar

Freely adapted from Pagnol, the sketches performed in a recreation of a Marseille tavern see Caesar evolve, awaiting a letter from his son Marius who has gone to sea.

The enchantments of Jardin Le Nôtre

Presented as the final bouquet of the visit, the show brings together some 25 dancers joined by a few actors from the other pieces.

Among these walkers, Frédéric Mistral, Le Nôtre and even Nostradamus… carefully observe the dancers.

We admire allegories of the arts and nature (painting, sculpture, water and forest) and couples of acrobats springing from hedges or fountains.

Finally, a large family ball in Provence presents noble couples in traditional costume dancing to baroque music mixed with more contemporary harmonies.

To this performance is added even a small vertical surprise for the grand finale of the show.
