Today, the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform launched the “Syrian Rural Product Support and Marketing Program” from Hama Governorate in the villages of Umm Al-Tair, Qayron and Maar Shahhour.

Dr. Raeda Ayoub, Director of Agricultural and Family Rural Development at the Ministry of Agriculture, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the program aims to improve the standard of living of rural families by developing and upgrading their products to achieve added value by launching an integrated model in terms of production, manufacturing, quality, packaging specifications, promotion, pricing, advertising and others. This contributes to increasing profits and production quantities and achieving greater job opportunities for rural families.

Dr. Ayoub indicated that the program also aims to manage and activate all efforts to develop rural production by providing all that is needed for families in poor areas to diversify production, improve its quality and increase it in quantity and quality during the seasons of abundance, monitor all types of existing and proposed rural product projects and identify strengths and weaknesses. In turn, Engineer Ghalia Salem, Head of the Rural Women Development Department in the Hama Agriculture Directorate, indicated with a similar statement that the families targeted by the program are those who work and have projects based on growing, collecting, picking and marketing herbs, medicinal and aromatic plants and distillates, or manufacturing and selling vinegar, or pomegranate molasses, carob molasses or olives. And olive oil or honey manufacturing, in addition to families that will enter into new projects in all the previously mentioned fields.

Engineer Salem indicated that the program provides financing, training and marketing services with the organization of the local community and the preparation of social and economic studies, in addition to the required support in the areas of promotion, advertising and media.

It is noteworthy that the program targets rural families in the governorates of Lattakia, Tartous and Hama, with the possibility of targeting other governorates in the future, while the number of villages targeted annually is 82.
