Freising's OB has appealed to property owners to make rooms available to the post office.

There have already been applicants, as the FT found out.

Freising

- Since Photo Porst closed, there is no longer a post office in the Freising city center.

Deutsche Post reported that their search for an operator had so far been unsuccessful.

Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher appealed to property owners.

There have been willing candidates for a long time.

In response to the statements made by the Post, the owner of the building that had previously housed Photo Porst contacted her.

You are amazed at the statements made by the company.

“In terms of content, they are hair-raising.

Because in February I offered the post office to take over the branch as it exists. ”The operations manager in question declined because they didn't have any staff.

"I was told that someone who already has a shop and runs the postal business on the side has to do that."

There were two promising applicants for the post office

But the story doesn't end there.

Because, according to our informant, there were actually two promising applicants who were interested in the premises of the former Photo Porst and at the same time presented a shop concept.

However, both were deterred by the demands or conditions that the post had made.

The FT spoke to one of the two candidates.

It's a businessman who already runs a shop with an attached post office in the Mühldorf district.

"I would have liked to do that and already had a concept," he says.

"Unfortunately we didn't get together in the end"

He wouldn't even have been deterred by the construction site on Obere Hauptstrasse. Among other things, this means that there are currently no parking spaces in front of the shop, so that customers have already had to lug parcels over longer distances in the past few months. “In the end we didn't get together, unfortunately,” says the Mühldorfer. Mainly because the Post's offer was not financially lucrative. Among other things, he should not have continued the Postbank business. “And then it becomes unattractive.

When asked about the applicant, Post spokeswoman Sonja Radojicic said: “We look forward to every offer and carefully check whether it meets our criteria.

Unfortunately, that is not always the case. ”She also confirmed that Swiss Post is ultimately not interested in a dedicated location in the Freising city center - for personnel and economic reasons.

Post did not want to hire new staff

“In places where we have to be represented according to the specifications, but where no suitable operator for a branch can be found, we temporarily operate branches with our own staff.

Such interim branches are not an ideal solution - for the customers and for us as well, because they usually cannot be operated economically, "she explained.

If they remained in the rooms, new staff would also have to be employed.

Nevertheless, efforts are being made to be able to offer postal services again in the Freising city center as quickly as possible.

But there are currently no other applicants.
