District Administrator Helmut Petz does not believe in air purifiers in school classes as protection against corona.

But now he is in direct opposition to the Prime Minister.

District

- The discussion about the use of air purification devices in classrooms is gaining momentum, especially in the district.

The Freising district committees have voted against the purchase of air purifiers several times, and now Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) is practically state-decreed as protection against Corona.

A conflict threatens - and the politicization of the topic.

District Administrator Helmut Petz (FW) is not very happy about this “swing” Söders: Firstly, he is by no means convinced of the usefulness of the devices and, secondly, he is afraid of being “justified”.

Freising was on Munich's line, but the state capital has now turned

Background: Various schools in the district have air purifiers in use. The reason for the purchase: That is definitely better than just relying on ventilation. The district of Erding even spent more than one million euros on air purifiers. The city and the district of Freising, however, have spoken out against the devices, based on a study by the Federal Environment Agency. Accordingly, the air purifiers are not effective because they cannot provide fresh air.

The city of Munich also represented this position - until Mayor Dieter Reiter changed course.

He might want to use the air purifiers now.

The reason for the debate is the significant increase in delta mutations in Bavaria as well.

There is a fear of having to close schools again at the start of school in autumn if the incidence rises sharply if, apart from airing, there is nothing to prevent the intake of corona aerosols in classrooms.

District administrator remains skeptical - and in the focus of public debate

District Administrator Helmut Petz remains skeptical. Söder's advance does not change the situation: Air cleaning devices are comparable to vacuum cleaners, which only suck in air from the immediate vicinity when they are low, but are "incredibly loud" when they are used more. Petz: “We don't want both. You can also open the windows. ”Add to that the enormous costs. In the district of Freising, a low seven-digit amount would be due for the nationwide purchase of equipment for the district schools, the district administrator calculates. In the entire Free State, around 200 million euros would have to be shelled out. This enormous sum bears no relation to the expected benefit. However, that is his personal opinion, emphasizes Petz.

How the parliamentary group leaders in the district council stand on Söder's demand that an air purification device should be installed in every classroom in September, which he now wants to explore in talks.

But one thing is already clear: "We are the focus of the public discussion."
