2021-07-01T20:04:19.191Z

EXCLUSIVE SURVEY - According to an Odoxa-Backbone Consulting study for Le Figaro and France Info, a large majority of French people want to make vaccination compulsory for white coats. 81% of them also want to be vaccinated.

By fair means or foul ? As the summer holidays approach, and as the government scrutinizes the progression of the Delta variant, the French are increasingly leaning towards compulsory vaccination. This is what shows an Odoxa-Backbone Consulting survey, carried out for

Le Figaro

and France Info. Concerning the nursing staff, the opinion is overwhelmingly majority: 72% of the French ask for an obligatory vaccination. As close as possible to the sick, unvaccinated caregivers are perceived as a major risk of contamination. The Minister of Health Olivier Véran, Tuesday, June 29 on France Info, set a limit by the end of the summer: if the vaccination of caregivers was insufficient, "

we will go towards compulsory vaccination

" in September.

Another lesson of the study, the compulsory vaccination of the whole population.

58% of French people are in favor: a jump of 20 points compared to a previous study published last November.

In detail, it is a majority of young people (55% of 18-34 year olds), from working-class categories (52%), and nearly one in two women (48%).

An eruptive debate that transcends and divides parties at each end of the political spectrum: 50% of LFI and RN voters oppose this obligation.

According to the polling institute, the French accept less and less the hostility of their fellow citizens vis-à-vis the vaccine.

What to bring water to the mill in the words of government spokesman Gabriel Attal, Thursday July 1 on LCI, who fears "

a form of divide between those who have been vaccinated and the unvaccinated

".

While the bar of 50% of French people who have received at least one dose of vaccine has just been crossed, the survey also reveals that 81% of them are ready to be vaccinated. Odoxa evokes a

"spectacular"

turnaround

in public opinion: in December, 42% of French people wanted to be vaccinated. For several months, the executive has spared no efforts to call for mass vaccination, the way out of the crisis. This government action is now deemed

"effective"

,

"coherent"

and

"carried out at a good pace"

by 6 out of 10 French people.
