Up to 500 listeners tune into the format “My portrait - my city” on Radio Geretsried every week.

Ice hockey professional Korbinian Holzer also chatted with presenter Schorsch Bares.

Geretsried - The former “New Sound” DJ Schorsch Bares has been chatting with a prominent Geretsried on Radio Geretsried every Thursday since the beginning of April.

The series “My Portrait - My City” developed by Program Director Felix Leipold and Marketing Manager Tanja Riedl is enjoying increasing popularity.

Up to 500 listeners tune in every week.

Gerhard Keilwerth, Roland Hammerschmied, Hans Ketelhut and Umile Amodio were just a few of the illustrious guests.

The last conversation partner before the summer break was the national ice hockey player Korbinian Holzer last Thursday, who took his first steps on ice skates at the age of three in the Heinz Schneider ice rink.

The 33-year-old, who grew up in Gelting and now lives with his family in Lenggries, has just returned from the World Cup in Riga.

A great honor for a small internet broadcaster

His first public interview in his home district was given to the small Internet broadcaster Radio Geretsried, of all places. Bares appreciated the honor. Well prepared, he received the sporty figurehead in the studio in the former art bunker on Isardamm. Equipped with headphones and microphones, the presenter and his guest sit across from each other at the table, Holzer in shorts and soccer jersey, suitable for the European Championship. Everyone has something bright in front of them. Between the two of them, Felix Leipold plays the songs on two laptops during the breaks. As always, Bares has put together a playlist of rock classics and titles from regional bands in advance.

The atmosphere is relaxed.

While the music is playing, the next topic blocks are briefly discussed.

"Korbi" Holzer talks spontaneously and completely free of airs about private matters and his career.

He started as a young student at TuS Geretsried, today ESC Geretsried.

“That was the best talent factory in the Oberland at the time,” says Holzer, praising the club.

High school diploma and training

In the U18 he continued at EC Bad Tölz, in 2004 he signed his first professional contract in the German Junior League (DNL). At the same time, his parents insisted that their son take a high school diploma and an apprenticeship. Although the young defender also received offers from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), after the relegation of the Tölzer Löwen, he decided to switch to ERC Regensburg, which was still a second division at the time. "At 17 years of age, I would certainly not have had as many ice ages in the DEL as in the ERC," says Holzer. This was followed by an engagement with the Düsseldorf Metro Stars and first games in the national team.

Geretsrieder managed what not many Germans do: the jump across the pond into the world-famous National Hockey League (NHL).

The talk guest raved about his time in Toronto, Anaheim and Nashville, about the ice hockey fever and the "unbelievable fans" in North America.

Because of an injury to his wrist and shortly afterwards because of the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the NHL adventure was over for the time being.

Compulsory break due to corona infection

After another short interlude in Tölz, the KHL went to Awtomobilist Yekatarinburg in November last year.

During a particularly nasty training session with a parachute strapped in for resistance, he suddenly realized that he was not quite fit, says the 1.90-meter giant.

He had caught the corona virus.

After a forced break of five days, he was back on his feet.

At the “icing on the cake” of the interview, the World Cup in Riga at the end of May / beginning of June, Bares shines with profound knowledge.

The Tölzer Löwen fan followed all the encounters and cheered the German team, which achieved a respectable fourth place in the end, against Italy, Norway, USA, Finland, Latvia and the others.

"The game against Canada was definitely one of the top games of your career," and "In terms of sport, you are at your peak," the moderator notes appreciatively.

Holzer confirms the statements, but remains modest.

People talk shop about why the German puck hunters blocked so much at this world championship, what details were ultimately missing for a medal, and what a feeling it was, for the first time in front of spectators, in the case of "2000 fanatical Latvians" on the ice to fight.

Engagement at Adler Mannheim

Holzer worked for Adler Mannheim for the next two years.

At the end of the day, Schorsch Bares wanted to know whether he could imagine returning to EC Bad Tölz in the second division towards the end of his active career.

Holzer's answer gives his fans hope: "Never say never".

Next broadcast

This Thursday, July 1st, Schorsch Bares looks back on the past season from 8 to 10 p.m. together with Felix Leipold and Tanja Riedel.

"All guests get a kind of certificate from me," announced the moderator.

The series “My Portrait - My City” continues from September 16 on www.radio-geretsired.de.
