And today (July 2) at about 1 am, the former Commissioner of Police and the current Secretary for Security, Tang Ping-keung, also rushed to the Queen Mary Hospital to visit the police officers injured in the attack. The two old and new "brothers" met with the media together.
Deng Bingqiang strongly condemned the incident. He said with excitement that the injured police officer was 28 years old and had joined the police force for about 8 years. He is now a Tactical Unit police officer. His wound was 10 cm deep and his lungs were injured. He is currently undergoing surgery.
He said that the evidence obtained after the search showed that the incident was believed to be a lone wolf-style local terrorist attack. The initial suspect had no accomplices, but the background was still investigated.
The incident occurred at about 10 pm on July 1, when a large number of police officers set up a cordon off East Point Road and Great George Street off the Hung Kuang Department Store in Causeway Bay.
A male PTU police officer on duty was attacked by a black-clothed man with a knife at close range.
It can be seen from the scene that the suspect stabbed the male policeman from behind to the left shoulder near the armpit. The male policeman was injured and evacuated, but then fell to the ground without support; the fellow immediately pressed the gun bag and pointed at the assailant.
It is reported that the suspect subsequently stabbed himself in the chest and was sent to hospital with the male police officer who was attacked. The suspect died after being rescued.
