Three municipalities and the district are building a 93 million euro school in Kirchheim.

Despite high building material prices and a shortage of craftsmen: no cost increases so far.

Kirchheim - It's a change of epoch: Yesterday the foundation stone was laid for the new grammar school on Heimstettner Straße in Kirchheim.

The old school building is on the other side of the street - the foundation stone was laid there around 40 years ago.

At that time teachers were teaching 110 high school students.

After completion in autumn 2023, the new grammar school is expected to accommodate more than 1,300 students.

The school building is a project of superlatives: 92.5 million euros expensive plus a risk buffer, three municipalities and the district are involved, the school will later be in the middle of a 100,000 square meter green area.

In addition to the Carl-Orff-Gymnasium in Unterschleißheim, the largest school in the district is currently being built.

Böltl: "It should be a meeting place"

"It should be a meeting place," said Kirchheim's mayor Maximilian Böltl (CSU) on Thursday.

At the historic foundation stone in the old grammar school, Böltl met with his colleagues from the participating communities from Aschheim and Feldkirchen and District Administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU).

They packed objects in a symbolic time capsule.

It should contain memories of the year 2021.

Böltl put the death picture of former mayor Hermann Schuster inside.

He was the founder of the old grammar school, and died on April 13th.

Headmaster Matthias Wermuth put a packet of chalk in the time capsule.

In the new high school there is no longer any need: digital boards with touch screens, entire tablet classes and fiber optic connections.

The Zweckverband is building a modern educational temple in Kirchheim.

New high school: "no luxury school"

But “not a luxury school”, emphasized Mayor Böltl. When the planned costs rose to 94 million euros a good two years ago, the high expenditure was criticized. The district bears the lion's share, a large part of its costs are eligible. The municipalities share costs amounting to 36.5 million euros - depending on the pupil share of the municipality.

There have been no cost increases so far, reports Böltl. On the contrary: they are currently slightly below the budget. Only the record prices for building materials could also drive up the costs of the high school. The progress of work is right on schedule. Workers are currently concreting the interior walls on the ground floor, and the formwork for the sports hall is being put in place. According to Böltl, the client does not feel the lack of skilled tradespeople. After all, the construction of the grammar school is a project “with a reputation”.
