President Bashar al-Assad received today Alexander Lavrentiev, the special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his accompanying delegation.
Talks during the meeting focused on strategic relations between Syria and the Russian Federation and areas of bilateral cooperation. The joint interest and priority given by the two sides to expand this cooperation in all areas that contribute to achieving the interests of the two friendly peoples was emphasized.
They also reviewed the latest developments in the situation in the region and the efforts made by the Russian Federation to support the Syrian people in the face of all the terrorism and sanctions they are exposed to, based on its firm position on the need to respect the principles of international law, the sovereignty of states and the will of their people, and to adopt dialogue as a basic and only premise to find solutions to problems and crises that arise in the world.
The latest developments on the political track were discussed, whether through the Astana meetings or the meetings of the Constitution Discussion Committee, where Lavrentiev presented to President al-Assad the ongoing preparations for holding the next meeting in the form of the Astana process, and it was stressed the need to continue working on this track without any external interference that hinders reaching positive results. through these meetings.
The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Major General Ali Mamlouk, Head of the National Security Office, Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, Special Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Ayman Susan, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Luna Al-Shibl, Special Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, Luay Falouh, Director of Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from the Russian side, the Russian Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Yefimov and the delegation accompanying the Special Envoy.
