Apple is in the high-end segment of smartphones.
But in the fight for market share, the group now apparently wants to increase the pressure on the competition - with a significant price discount.
Cupertino - Even if Apple is currently cracking down on leaks, the rumor mill is simmering.
And as always when autumn approaches, a lot revolves around the new iPhone.
One of the leading analysts, Ming-Chi Kuo, is committed: Apple is tinkering with a small sensation - and for the first time undercuts a magical price limit.
In a so-called research note, the Apple insider predicts little surprise: the end of the iPhone Mini, once the bearer of hope.
The sales figures were too weak, the alleged gap in the market too small.
Now Apple seems to be trying its luck at the other extreme: the iPhone Mini is to be replaced by a Max model with a huge 6.7-inch display.
The special thing: According to Kuo, this model should cost less than 900 US dollars (758 euros), reports the Macrumors portal, citing the study.
Since the introduction of the larger Max models in September 2018, you always had to put at least 1249 euros on the table.
Apple iPhone 14 Max: Historically low price, but less technology
However, according to Kuo, some features would be missing to compensate for the historic price of the new entry-level giant. The expected return of the Touch ID to unlock the iPhone - not built into a home button, but under the display - does not happen with this 6.7-inch model. In addition, as usual, a Pro version in the max size is to appear; analogous to this, two “normal-sized” iPhones with 6.1-inch display. Kuo is silent about their pricing. For the Pro models, he is promising an improved wide-angle camera with 48 megapixels.
So much for the good news for Apple fans, but there is also bad news.
When analyst Kuo speaks of the cheapest iPhone Max of all time, he is talking about iPhone generation 14 and a release in autumn 2022. This year, however, there will be no major changes to the iPhone: Touch ID will not make its comeback this year, nor will it give big leaps in technology, design or storage space.
Forbes
editor Gordon Kelly is therefore not expecting an iPhone 13 this year, he is expecting a 12s.
iPhone SE: The “cheapest 5G iPhone of all time” will be available in early 2022
Kuo, on the other hand, is already naming this year's fall models 13 - and predicts a last mini guest appearance in the iPhone family before the 5.4-inch smartphone is crushed. But Kuo still has one good news: the “cheapest 5G iPhone of all time” is expected to hit the market in the first half of 2022. We're talking about an iPhone SE, similar to the current look, but with a significant increase in performance.
