With words that bear all the meanings of steadfastness, defiance, and confidence in victory over the Israeli jailer and his practices against the Palestinian prisoners, hunger striker Ghazanfar Abu Atwan speaks despite the penetration of many diseases in his body and despite severe fatigue as a result of his strike for the 58th consecutive day in the hope of bringing his suffering and thousands of prisoners to the world.

The occupation forces arrested 28-year-old Abu Atwan from Dura in Hebron in October 2020, amid very dangerous health conditions, as the occupation practices deliberate medical negligence against about 5,300 prisoners, which caused the death of dozens inside the occupation detention centers or shortly after their release from them.

In his first interview from inside the prison via social media, Ghazanfar told SANA reporter: With the will of steadfastness and steadfastness, I will defeat the Israeli jailer in the battle of the empty intestines that I am waging for the 58th day in a row, and with the support of the Palestinian people and the free people in the world, I will win just as hundreds of prisoners before me won a battle Honor and dignity, I will return to my home and family and complete my university studies.

On her part, Benazir, the prisoner’s sister, says: Ghazanfar is in high spirits and is confident of taking his freedom despite the seriousness of his health, as his heart may stop beating at any moment, but he will win the battle of the empty intestines, which is his weapon to gain his freedom or martyrdom.

She added, my brother has completely lost movement and is suffering from many serious diseases, and my mother is living in a state of fear, anxiety and sadness for him, as she was a former captive in the occupation prisons and suffered the scourge of arrest. We count the days, moment by moment, out of fear for Ghazanfar's life and we fear a lot for his life.

Benazir explained that the occupation arrested her brother four times, during which he was subjected to various types of torture inside the cells, noting that the price of freedom is high, and Abu Atwan will eventually triumph over his jailers, as he has steadfastness, steadfastness, and high morale as all the Palestinian people.

The spokesman for the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority, Hassan Abd Rabbo, pointed out that the health condition of the captive Abu Atwan is seriously deteriorating due to the lack of fluids and its impact on the functions of vital organs such as the heart and kidneys, which led to his suffering from pain throughout his body, indicating that he suffers from tachycardia. And the lack of fluid in the body, which affects its vital organs negatively, and sometimes faints.

In turn, the director of the Prisoners’ Affairs Authority in Bethlehem, Munqith Abu Atwan, a relative of the captive, explained that the battle of the empty intestines that Abu Atwan is waging is to reject all occupation measures against the prisoners, including solitary confinement, medical negligence, and the prevention of visits, pointing out that the hunger strike is a way for prisoners to expose the racist practices of the occupation. Abu Atwan stressed that the prisoner Ghazanfar enjoys a high spirit and raises the slogan of freedom or martyrdom, and sees that his battle is a new flame that expresses a state of boiling and anger among all prisoners, denouncing the oppressive occupation measures against them.

The specialist in the prisoners’ file, Raafat Hamdouna, indicated that he may announce the death of the prisoner Abu Atwan at any moment due to the seriousness of his health condition, and the occupation deliberately ignored his condition, indicating that diseases ravaged the bodies of hundreds of prisoners, in addition to the intensification of the occupation forces’ incursions into detention facilities, assaulting prisoners and isolating them in solitary confinement, in violation of He traveled to conventions for the protection of prisoners.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health called on the international community, human rights organizations and the International Red Cross to urgently intervene and put pressure on the Israeli occupation to release the prisoner Abu Atwan and save his life, indicating that he suffers from a very serious health condition and is at risk of sudden death or paralysis, as the lack of fluid has affected the functions of vital organs such as the heart and kidneys.
