Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (SPD) has redeemed his betting debts with the British.

He and his colleague Dominic Raab had made a bet that Germany would win the European Football Championship against England for a case of beer.

As is well known, this was not the case.

After the 2-0 defeat at Wembley, Maas presented the box to British Ambassador Jill Gallard on Thursday in Berlin.

According to the embassy, the Pils came from Saarland, the home of the minister.

"Betting debts are debts of honor," Maas wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

There he had congratulated Raab and the footballers on their victory.

The two foreign ministers had previously posed with their national team jerseys in their hands.

Maas said that he and his colleague agreed on almost all international issues, just not when it came to football.
