After the heavy rain in the Bühlach area in Peiting recently caused flooding, there is now good news for the residents: The community has made some progress in finding a solution to the problem.

Peiting

- As reported, Bühlachstrasse was partly completely under water during the severe storm at the beginning of June.

Several gullies also overflowed.

The community reacted and stopped the already ongoing public display in the development and zoning plan procedure for the new building of the Marienheim.

Mayor Peter Ostenrieder had to admit that the rainwater hazard, which the residents had repeatedly warned about in their protest against the new building, had apparently been underestimated.

The community quickly had a guess as to what the problem might be.

It is possible that the existing rainwater canal, which is actually supposed to divert the water towards Hauser Bach, has overgrown in some places.

A canal inspection should next clarify whether you are on the right track.

Bottleneck in the canal found on the plans

Although this has not yet taken place, the solution to the problem has obviously come a little closer.

You have probably already found the bottleneck, said the town hall chief at the latest municipal council meeting.

Alfred Jocher (Independent) had previously criticized the loss of knowledge in the building authority, where no one knew about such a problem.

Jocher recalled that the Peitinger Chronik had already mentioned floods in this area, who recommended not only listening to outsiders, but also getting advice from old Peitingers such as the former market builder Reinhard Pantke.

The bottleneck that the mayor spoke of is in the area of the level crossing on Hauser Strasse.

It was discovered while studying the plans of the canal system, Ostenrieder reported when asked by Schongauer Nachrichten.

On its way from the Bühlach to the Hauser Bach, the rainwater sewer has a diameter of 50 centimeters everywhere except for the point where it passes under the Hauser Straße.

“It's only 30 centimeters there.” This “bottleneck” is eight meters long, and there is a lot to suggest that the water accumulates there in heavy rain, says Ostenrieder.

For example, it only lifts the manhole cover above the narrow point when there is a lot of water.

Talking about rain retention basin above the cemetery

If this proves to be true, the problem would be relatively easy to fix.

But before the excavators get started, the municipality wants to wait for the canal to be visited, which should provide information about whether there are any further bottlenecks.

In cooperation with a planning office, according to the town hall chief, it is currently being examined whether a rainwater retention basin above the Bühlach cemetery could provide additional relief for the canal.

A revision of the enema is also under discussion.

As reported, the municipality is also in contact with the AWO as the owner of the Marienheim new building, in order to advise on additional restraint measures on the hillside property.

If everything goes smoothly, the changed planning should be presented to the local council in July.
