District - Since Thursday, secondary school students no longer have to wear a mask on the square.

But by no means all make use of it.

Middle school

Veronica Schäffler is attending 8th grade at Hausham Middle School - and was happy to hear that the mask requirement had been dropped.

“It's a relief,” says the 14-year-old.

"I have school until 3:30 pm, so the mask gets exhausting, especially on hot days." But she also understands when students keep wearing masks: "Everyone should decide that for themselves," says the third student representative.

high school

Nicolas Ahner (17), student spokesman at the Holzkirchen grammar school, initially felt the news as positive: “This is the first step towards normalcy and a completely different learning atmosphere.” However, he asked himself whether the end of the mask requirement would make sense with regard to virus mutations . He keeps the mask on - although he will get his second corona vaccination in two weeks. “I would like to do an internship in a landscape architecture office in Berlin soon. That doesn't work if I have to be in quarantine, ”says the Q11 student.

This is how his classmate Johanna Ambros (17), who is also the student representative, sees it.

"Getting Corona shortly before the holidays may mean that you won't be able to go on vacation." Although she has already been vaccinated twice, this only reduces the risk of a severe course, not the risk of becoming infected.

Lasse Endras (17), also a student representative at the Gymnasium Holzkirchen, has concerns: "If we have a Corona case in Q11, the entire Q11 has to be quarantined." He estimates that, not least for this reason, 80 percent of the Q 11 continue to wear a mask.

“Of course, one can ask oneself whether this has to be the case when we prevent it with ventilation and testing.

But aerosols are particularly dangerous indoors.

That is why I find it counterproductive that a mask no longer has to be worn in the field. "

The situation at the Tegernsee grammar school is similar: “Individual groups of pupils and many teachers have still kept their masks on,” says school principal Werner Oberholzner.

Many students are already vaccinated.

secondary school

Verena Schmid (16) is the student representative at the Tegernseer Tal secondary school in Gmund.

She says: “Most of them had got used to the masks in the past few months.” Nevertheless, the majority are relieved that the mask requirement has ended.

"Everyone in my class was happy to take off their masks." The tenth grader is particularly happy about one thing: "We'll see each other laughing again - finally."

Leah Rietig (16) is in the tenth grade of the Oberlandrealschule Holzkirchen.

"For most of them it was a big step back to normal," says the student representative.

Some leave the mask on anyway - including Rietig.

“Because I'm afraid of getting infected so shortly before the exams,” says the graduate student.

The director of the Oberlandrealschule, Joachim Fischer, says: "The teachers are happy to be able to look into the faces of the students again."

FOS

At the FOS Holzkirchen there is relief to be able to take off the mask at the seat.

“Especially in summer temperatures,” says school principal Michael Hüttl.

In view of the close-knit hygiene concept with fixed groups without mixing and the low incidence, he considers the end of the mask requirement to be justifiable.

Since the introduction of compulsory tests in schools, the FOS has carried out three tests a week instead of the required two.

"Of course, there is still a residual risk," says Hüttl, "but we'll have to live with that."
