The open-air museum Glentleiten takes over another historical building.

It is to be built on Schlehdorfer Flur, so this was a topic in the local council.

The councils gave the green light, but were initially amused by the building.

Schlehdorf / Großweil - The building is a so-called weighing house with vehicle scales, which was built in Acheleschwaig near Saulgrub (Garmisch-Partenkirchen district) in 1907/08 and which belonged to the branch of today's Schwaiganger main and state stud. In order to be able to set up this Waaghäusl on the museum grounds, however, the Schlehdorf municipal council first had to give the project the green light in its most recent meeting. Because, as Mayor Stefan Jocher explained when asked, the weighing house is to be built on Schlehdorfer Flur. As Melanie Bauer from the museum's press office informs, the weighing house is an inconspicuous boarded-up column construction over a rectangular floor plan. The historical value is more in the interior of the house:This is because there is an old wagon scale for weighing the delivered hay and straw wagons. This was in operation until the 1970s and is still functional today. So that the wagons could pass through without problems, the building has a double-leaf gate on each gable side.

"A very worthwhile addition"

The balance, Bauer continues, was part of the Acheleschwaig estate, which belonged to the Ettal monastery from 1480 until the secularization, but then became the property of the Kingdom of Bavaria.

Since 1814 the estate has served as a branch of what was then the Schwaiganger Military Foal Farm (renamed in 1871 as Remonte-Depot Schwaiganger, today Schwaiganger Main and State Stud).

Until the First World War it had been enlarged again and again.

In the course of such expansion measures, the Waaghäusl was added at the beginning of the 20th century.

“The building, which is over 100 years old, is an extremely worthwhile addition to the Glentleiten,” says in-house researcher Simon Kotter.

On the one hand, the fully functional scales convey a piece of technical history.

"And on the other hand, through its historical function, the Waaghäuschen links Bavarian military history with local agricultural history," continues Kotter.

In addition, the open-air museum Glentleiten, like the Waaghäuschen, has a direct connection to the main and state stud Schwaiganger - after all, parts of the museum grounds once belonged to the historic Remonte depot.

The outside of the building looks more like a normal Feldstadl

The Schlehdorf municipal councils unanimously approved the construction of the house on the museum grounds, but were initially a little amused by the building, which from the outside looked more like a normal Feldstadl than a historical structure.

As museum spokeswoman Bauer said, the dismantling of the weighing house should take place in July and August.

The reconstruction on the Glentleiten is planned immediately afterwards, so that the weighing house can be opened next year.

The Glentleiten Association will bear the costs of dismantling and rebuilding.
