Bad Wiessee / Neuhaus

- She is still on dry land in a shipyard on the North Sea, but Angels Share has already made waves at Tegernsee. As reported, the Schutzgemeinschaft Tegernseer Tal (SGT) reacted with a storm of indignation to the plans of the Haushamer whiskey visionary Anton Stetter and the Wiesse hotel manager Anton Gericke to anchor the floating barrel storage at the boathouse of the Terrassenhof in Bad Wiessee. It is a pure advertising campaign for a drink that is atypical in Bavaria, the SGT rumbled in a press release. On top of that, further event tourism would put a strain on nature and tranquility at Tegernsee.

Stetter and Gericke try to take the wind out of the sails of the critics.

So these would be claiming things that are inconsistent with the facts.

"We do not want to and will not push a party ship into the reeds," emphasizes Gericke.

This would contradict everything that the Terrassenhof has stood for for more than 90 years.

"If I was into marketing, I'd rather run ads," adds Stetter.

The Angels Share, on the other hand, plays a central role in the production process.

Together with the Sylt whiskey expert Alexander Siewers, they found out in a long test phase that the distillate ripens differently on a rocking ship and develops a special aroma in the process.

That is now also planned for Tegernsee.

Whiskey ship is about to set sail with sails

The question of approval of the project remains. Stetter emphasizes that inquiries have been made with all the authorities. Ultimately, however, it is not all that complicated. Basically, a berth is like a carport. "If I put a new car in there, I don't have to ask for permission." It would be different if the Angels Share were no longer moved, adds Gericke. Then it would be considered a structural facility. This will not happen, however, because the whiskey ship is supposed to sail across the Tegernsee at regular intervals. "We want to equip it with a suitable historical sail," explains Stetter. The necessary anchorages are available on the cutter because it was moved this way in the past. A motor is not used, assures Stetter.

Before the Angels Share can set sail, it has to be approved by a kind of TÜV, explains Gericke. The district office then assigns a boat number. The neighboring sailing center takes care of the operation with its rental offer. The exits themselves should not only be silent due to the lack of an engine, but should also be rather leisurely on deck. Gericke calls the concept “snack sailing”. “We won't disturb the ducks.” And neither will the whiskey as it matures.
