The Democrat Nancy Pelosi has also appointed Liz Cheney to the committee of inquiry into the storming of the US Capitol.
The President of the House of Representatives sent one of the harshest critics of Donald Trump the Republican to the commission.
Cheney was kicked out of the Republican faction leadership in May after another attack against the ex-president.
The 54-year-old daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney said she was honored to serve on the committee of inquiry.
"What happened on January 6th must never happen again," she said.
Those responsible for the attack would have to be held accountable.
"And this committee will fulfill this duty professionally, quickly and impartially."
The storming of the Capitol on January 6th had rocked the United States and is considered a black day in the history of US democracy.
Radical Trump supporters had attacked the seat of Congress when Biden's victory in the presidential election on November 3 was to be certified there.
Five people were killed in the violence, including a police officer.
Trump had previously repeated his completely unsubstantiated accusation of massive election fraud at a performance in front of supporters in Washington and urged his audience to march to the Capitol and "fight the hell out of it."
House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy reacted angrily to Cheney's appeal from Pelosi.
McCarthy said he was "shocked" by this "unprecedented" occurrence.
The House of Representatives decided to set up the committee of inquiry on Wednesday.
Cheney was one of two Republicans who voted alongside the Democrats for the committee of inquiry.
The committee, which currently includes seven Democratic MPs in addition to Cheney, is to be headed by Democratic MP Bennie Thompson.
