The Directorate of Environment in Lattakia, in cooperation with a number of private associations, organized an environmental walk to the forests surrounding the town of Mashqita in the northern countryside of the province, aimed at making new discoveries of the picturesque Syrian nature and its biodiversity of trees, plants and animals.

A team from the Revolutionary Youth Union, the Syndicate of Engineers, the Higher Institute for Environmental Research, a number of associations interested in the environment and young volunteers participated in the march.

Engineer Rosan Salha, head of the Environmental Awareness Department in the Environment Directorate in Lattakia, said in a statement to SANA reporter: The aim of the walk is to encourage eco-tourism and introduce participants to the rich environmental diversity in the Syrian forests, which are among the most beautiful natural forests in the region.

Aktham Ismail, who is in charge of the Syria Light team, explained that the team’s participation came to shed light on the pristine natural sites in this wonderful region, which many Syrians are ignorant of, taking advantage of the capabilities and important information provided by the Environment Directorate to introduce the natural sites in Syria.

Dr. Zahwat Al-Munla, a nutritionist and leader of the Good Land Builders team, confirmed that, as a team, they find an opportunity to walk in pine forests where the percentage of pure oxygen increases, which enhances immunity and cleanses cells, in addition to the fact that such activities raise the hormone of happiness and eliminate depression.

Hisham Bitar from the Souk Al Dayaa Association explained that the charming nature of Mashkita makes it a tourist destination par excellence, attracting people to participate and discover new paths towards the Tishreen 16 Dam and its seven lakes.

Hiba Daher and Hala Jubaili from the Revolutionary Youth Union found the hike a recreational and tourist trip to get to know Syria's natural beauty and an opportunity to practice the hobby of hiking.

It is noteworthy that Mashkita is one of the most beautiful summer resorts in Syria, located 23 km north of Lattakia. It enjoys a very beautiful nature overlooking beautiful views and seven lakes, and it is located on the road between Lattakia and the famous Kassab resort.
