Last week, a large forest and thorn fire broke out in a wadi near Gedaliah Street in Haifa, and spread to residential buildings in the area, some of which evicted tenants.
Five firefighters and rescue workers operating at the scene took control of the fire after several hours of operation.
Rescue Union volunteers provided medical care to several casualties lightly from smoke inhalation.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the fire most likely started as a result of cigarette butts.
The Haifa station's flammability researcher conducted an initial review of the findings, and found dozens of semi-burnt cigarette butts at the site.
The investigation continues, and will be assisted by, among other things, the municipality's security cameras.
