The Eching Music School has just survived the corona-related restrictions, and you are already facing new problems: The heavy rain of the past few days has hit the facility hard.

Eching

- The recent stormy rains have led to flooding and water damage in and in front of some municipal buildings. Most serious are the consequences of the heavy rain for the Echingen music school. This was not the first water damage in the music school basement: in the past, groundwater has penetrated several times because of a crack in the floor pan.

Currently, however, the water did not come from below, but from above.

On the north side, towards Untere Hauptstrasse, rainwater penetrated the basement rooms through the deep basement shafts through closed windows and destroyed the high-quality "stick parquet" in the corridor and in the practice rooms by swelling.

In the meantime, this has largely been removed from the building yard - sometimes with greater difficulty because it was difficult to knock off.

The carpets in the adjoining classrooms, which also have to be replaced, were also affected.

Drainage on the main road needs to be improved

The priority now is to improve the drainage on the main road, to protect the basement from rainwater and to seal the windows and shafts accordingly.

Music school director Katrin Masius and her colleagues see themselves - the easing after the corona-related restrictions and failures hardly noticeable - faced with new, completely unexpected logistical and organizational problems.

All five classrooms facing the main street cannot be used until further notice, probably until at least the summer holidays.

In many cases, the Manfred Bernt Hall, which is still used for choir rehearsals and elementary lessons due to the distance rules that still apply, has to be used as a practice room.

Concerts and public appearances in your own house are difficult to imagine, says Masius, describing the situation.

Flat roof of the triple gymnasium leaking

In addition, leaks occurred on the gravel flat roof of the triple gymnasium on Dietersheimer Strasse, through which it dripped into the hall from above.

Mayor Sebastian Thaler informed the building committee about the extent of the rain (incidents) that there was no permanent damage.

However, appropriate repairs must also be made here.

It also got temporarily wet in the foyer of the Huberwirt and in the teachers' garage in the underground car park of the primary and secondary school in Danziger Strasse.

There it went without any serious impairments, as was the case with the youth center.

There a real small lake had formed in the forecourt, but thanks to a raised threshold it could not spread into the building.
