The “Awwam duck chick” is an example that applies to Obeida Abu Saab, the Al Raha club player in the sport of judo, who was influenced by his father, the coach and international referee, and his aunt Rola and his uncle Adham Kanaan, who participated in his training and made him a player capable of competing in the field of this combat game that the club is famous for.
19-year-old Obeida told SANA’s sports representative how he was attached to this sport since his childhood years and his level began to gradually develop, as he won the first republican championship in which he participated in the junior category, taking second place in 2017, then first place in 2019, and he also won the silver of the international championship in Lebanon in 2018. In addition, he won third place in the National Junior Olympiad and won several provincial championships.
Abu Saab, who has a black belt, indicated that the suspension of sports activities last year due to the Corona virus and his entry to the university affected his training, but he is now hoping, with the gradual return of activities, to restore his fitness, develop his level and prepare for the competitions of the republic’s championships for the coming period.
Obeida's ambition does not stop as a player, as he hopes, in line with his studies of law, and if the required support and camps are available for him, to represent Syria's national team and participate in tournaments at various Asian and international levels.
According to Obeida’s father, Abu Saab’s defense, his son started judo training at the age of 8, and his level developed rapidly and emerged within a short period in the governorate championships first, then moved to the level of the Republic with two external participations, in which he represented Al Raha Club with championships in Lebanon, pointing out that he worked to encourage him with other players in the club He is currently motivating him to rehabilitate him and to overcome the stage of temporary suspension from training.
According to coaches Adham Kanaan and Rola Abu Saab, Obeida is a distinguished player and is always committed to training programs and always strives for the best. He has a good technical level and is able to be a champion project if the required support is achieved.
The head of Al Raha Club, Nizar Abu Ras, said that Obeida comes from a sports family that introduced judo to the club and the governorate, pointing out that he enjoyed a good level and represented Al Raha in many tournaments and achieved good results in them.
