Pöttmes - The union of values made up of conservative CDU and CSU members came under increasing criticism from the party base after Max Otte was elected as the new chairman.
As announced on Saturday, the Bavarian state association of the Union of Values has left the federal association and is returning to its former form of association.
The Bavarian Union of Values organized a general meeting in the Aichach-Friedberg district on Saturday, at which a new chairwoman - 38-year-old Juliane Ried - was elected.

The association wants to continue under its original name of "Conservative Departure for Values and Freedom" and concentrate in its actions primarily on the CSU and Bavaria.
After it was founded in 2014, it merged with the Union of Values in 2019.
As Ried announced to the German Press Agency, they are still pursuing common goals with the Union of Values, but they see an urgent need for action in their own federal state.
"We want to concentrate on the CSU again," said the 38-year-old.

In this context, Ried also sharply criticized the current CSU leadership around party leader and Prime Minister Markus Söder.
The leadership of the CSU is "currently more problematic than that of the CDU, so that one has to concentrate with all their might on Bavaria and the basis of the CSU." The aim of the association is to counter a "left turn" of the CSU.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the state association in Baden-Württemberg has announced their resignation to protest against the election of Max Otte as the new chairman of the Union of Values.
"The goals of the Union of Values will no longer be achieved with the current federal executive board," said Vice Country President Oliver Kämpf.
The background is an "approach to ethnic and nationalist issues."
Otte, who was elected the new federal chairman of the Union of Values on May 29, is considered controversial within the CDU because of his closeness to the AfD. The 56-year-old was, among other things, chairman of the board of trustees of the AfD-affiliated Desiderius Erasmus Foundation until the beginning of the year.
