- For a long time, according to Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher, the celebration was in the stars, so he was all the more pleased to officially open Rosentag on Saturday as a cooperation between the city and the Active City. For the first time, the idyllic district court garden for market stalls and the flower show was included - an absolute plus for Eschenbacher. "It's a great atmosphere here," emphasized the mayor, who would like to use this location for Rose Day in the future. The only downer at the starting shot: A musical accompaniment was not possible due to the hygiene rules. However, this was then made up for in the afternoon on the Rose Island by the culture award winner Petra Lewi, so that the anniversary day also received its perfect soundtrack.

According to Julia Bönig from Active City Freising, Rose Day has a lot of fans.

At two locations - the district court garden and the rose island - an extensive range of products relating to the queen of flowers was created for all gardening enthusiasts.

Bönig was satisfied: "We have never had as many roses as this year!"

In 2001, Freising was the first Bavarian city to be awarded the title City of Roses by the then Association of German Rose Friends, Eschenbacher recalled. None of this would have been possible without the great commitment of Dr. Josef Sieber (1920 to 2011) from the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences and Anton Eichenlaub from the city gardening department, both of whom were very committed to colorful rose planting in Freising - and thus laid the foundation for the multifaceted planting and greening in the city. In 2007, an inner-city garden was created with the rose island, which has become a popular place for tourists as well as locals to really relax.

And there, on Saturday too, numerous guests romped about to enjoy this very special flair on the Moosach between 80 different roses.

And if you were still in the mood for shopping, all sorts of attractions awaited in the city: Rose city tours, competitions and of course the big weekly market.

Eschenbacher also used the ceremonial opening of Rose Day to say goodbye to Heidi Kammler as grassland advisor and to welcome her successor Robert Weller as the new responsible city councilor.

Eschenbacher presented both of them with a rose bush of the “Rosenstadt Freising” variety from Eschenbacher - a stroke of luck for Weller, as some of his canes froze to death over the winter.

Unfortunately, the mayor himself does not have a garden for rose bushes - but he is the boss of a rose city.
